Acupuncture
A gentle, non-invasive, ancient Chinese approach.
We are excited to announce the addition of acupuncture to the services we provide. Dr. Jillson has been working tirelessly on her certification over the past year and is now ready to bring this practice to the Daisy Mountain patients.
What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture may be defined as the insertion of needles into specific points on the body to produce a healing response. Each acupuncture point has specific actions when stimulated. While the traditional Chinese method revolves around the concept of moving “qi” or energy, Dr Jillson took a medicine and evidence-based course that focuses on the functions of the nervous system, and how in-depth knowledge of anatomy and nerve physiology can be used to produce a desired effect.
When is Acupuncture used?
The most common use of acupuncture is for the treatment of pain, especially musculoskeletal pain such as arthritis or pain from chronic injuries. It can help with nerve damage and intervertebral disc disease. It can also be used for internal medicine conditions such as urinary incontinence, feline cystitis, nausea, and diseases of the cranial nerves such as dry eye. Dr Jillson is also proficient in electroacupuncture, which involves using electric currents for additional stimulation of specific nerves, increasing the physiologic response and promoting the release of healing substances in the body.
What should I expect if I book a consultation for acupuncture with Dr. Jillson?
Your initial consultation will be about one hour long. During this time, you and Dr. Jillson will have an in-depth conversation about your pet's health concerns. From her examination of your pet and the conversation with you, it will be determined if your pet can benefit from acupuncture. If acupuncture is right for your pet their first treatment will be performed during your consultation and a treatment schedule will be provided.
We are so excited to add depth to our treatment options for our patients. We hope you take advantage of this service and can value the benefits it will bring to your pets.
